1- Mei Lan, the giant panda, holds a unique place in the hearts of the staff and visitors at the zoo in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was born and raised. Mei Lan, originally thought to be a female by the zookeepers, was later determined to be a male by staff at the Chengdu Research Center in China. Despite his American birthplace, Mei Lan officially belongs to China, according to a 2010 contract.

2- To help Mei Lan adapt more quickly to his new life in China, the Chinese authorities took a novel approach by hiring a private tutor online. This tutor was tasked with teaching the giant panda the basics of the Chinese language, creating a unique and amusing scenario.
